#AMonthOnFilm – After dinner

25—After dinner

We ate outside on this day. Burned our brush pile and roasted hot dogs over the fire and enjoyed an evening outside. It was so nice to accomplish some yard work and enjoy time together outside as a family.

#AMonthOnFilm – Still life

24—Still life

Tiny clump of dead lilacs from my small collection of dead, dried out plants laying on the sidewalk in evening light. I like dead things, plants can be just as interesting to me when they’re dead and dry as when they’re brightly blooming and full of life. I try to appreciate the beauty in all stages.

[I was disappointed with this photo because the exposure is brighter than I prefer, but this is film and I only get one shot at each frame and can’t just review and delete—still learning]

#AMonthOnFilm – Through the doorway

23—Through the doorway

Decided to take two shots—One of Ben and Abigail through the kitchen door playing a game for their 30 minutes together (Ben does something with each child individually for 30 minutes once each week) and one through the living room door looking outside at sunset.

#AMonthOnFilm – Self

22—Self

Just a shot of myself wearing my NewSpring “faith moves mountains” shirt reflected in the big mirror on our bathroom door. Not fond of being captured with a camera and very slowly learning to see myself as part of God’s good creation—both inside and outside. My whole self has been on quite the journey, it’s a complicated, challenging and rewarding process to learn about myself and keep growing.

#AMonthOnFilm – A treasured possession

21—A treasured possession

My wedding ring. It’s not worth a lot of money but it’s a reminder to me of Ben and my love for and commitment to each other, that God brought us together as friends who met at church. I am thankful to have my wedding ring after having a sudden weight gain from psychiatric medications a few years ago and having to have my ring cut off my finger. A jewelry store repaired and resized my ring but it never fit right and was so big that I quit wearing it for fear I would lose it. I took it to a jeweler who did an amazing job talking through and gathering good information for the appropriate size to help it fit my finger well. And now I can enjoy wearing it without being afraid it will fall off and can enjoy the reminder and symbol that it is.

#AMonthOnFilm – Empty

20—Empty

My empty Nalgene bottle. I try to drink 3 of these 32 ounce bottles of water each day. It has become such a habit I know about what time each day I will or will need to finish drinking the first 2 bottles to get in my regular amount. It helps me feel better physically and mentally/emotionally. Also I often feel empty (of worth, purpose, like nothing, dissociated) and also full (of an awful lot feelings and shame) all at the same time. I certainly feel that way today.

#AMonthOnFilm – 8 a.m. bedsheets

19—8 a.m. bedsheets

Wrinkled, unmade sheets at the foot of our bed after we got up on a dark and stormy morning. For me an empty bed is a big victory as it takes a tremendous amount of energy and work just to get out of bed each day.

#AMonthOnFilm – Something you dislike

18—Something you dislike

I dislike severely struggling with my mental health (anxiety, depression, CPTSD) and all the treatment and hospitalizations I’ve endured that have caused further trauma and not helped which leaves fewer tools and options for recovery. I dislike how our culture and churches often act and live in ways that can cause further harm for those struggling with mental health by not recognizing trauma or the reality of living in an imperfect world. I dislike that I laid in my bed most of this afternoon wishing I could die. This is the spot where I laid with my blanket.

#AMonthOnFilm – Warmth

17—Warmth

My blanket, Try Softer and something my therapist told me a few weeks ago typed on my phone all sitting on my lap. These things give me a feeling of warmth and safety. I am so thankful for them and their impact in my life.
