This branch of our rose bush and its shadow caught my eye one evening at sunset as I was enjoying the beautiful light around our home.

A motion blur shot I took as my husband drove me to a neurofeedback appointment on a rainy day at the end of October. For the past 10 months (at the point when I took this photo–now it’s been about 15 months) I usually spend 6 hours in the car each week on the way to and home from neurofeedback appointments twice a week. I’m not sure I could really put my experience of what this process has been for me into words—extremely helpful, encouraging, healing and hopeful and it also comes with a lot of hard work, dedication, challenges and difficulties. After years of struggle and trying different treatments (one thing helped and many that added more trauma on top of what I’d already experienced) I am very thankful to find that neurofeedback helps get to the root of my severe mental health struggles. And it’s still not easy for me. Lately I’ve been able to bring my camera with me and sometimes take pictures (while my husband drives) as a way to cope with the intense things I’m dealing with.

A slow shutter image I took this past spring along the road next to our home. It was an interesting process to experiment with and see the results as I gave this a try.

Note to Self: all parts of you are welcome here. • • • • • • • • • • • • • My old, worn out shoes I wear when I’m working outdoors, doing something potentially messy, or out venturing around taking pictures that I took off next to the floor mat reminded me [contrary to what I’d been led to believe] it’s ok to be who I was created to be and all parts of me are welcome here.

For a few weeks I watched these branches of the rose bush as they grew taller and taller, mentally cheering them on, and gaining encouragement from them to try to do the same myself and keep growing.

So intent on what I was photographing (probably dandelions) that as I knelt in the grass I ended up with some dandelion seeds on my sleeve. And I was thankful to notice how the golden sunset light made them shine.

Kneeling in the grass to get the shot, I looked down and found dandelion shadows on my jeans. I am thankful I was present and aware enough to notice and capture this moment. Seeing this image reminds me of this moment.

My son eating some leftovers he warmed up in the oven for lunch. I found it quite funny that he ate his lunch wearing an oven mitt—my children sure do keep me entertained.
