Kansas Flint Hills + dirty car windows

Nikon D750, Sigma 35mm f/1.4 – (7-23-2021)

Just a quick shot I took out my window as my husband was driving 75+ miles per hour down the Kansas Turnpike through the Flint Hills (my favorite part of the 8 hour drive) a few months ago. Taking photos while riding in the car is quite an interesting practice—you never know what you’ll get or how an image might turn out as you’re moving down the road. And I find that often it’s a helpful way for me to cope and have something to focus on. Sometimes I take my camera in the car when we go places—have been doing this a lot less as I’ve been facing some very intense struggles so I often don’t feel up to taking a camera and usually don’t go many places. When we travel this far/out of state I make sure to at least bring my camera with me. I know this photo would be considered a technical failure but I thought the dirt on the window highlighted by the setting sunlight added an interesting element to the image. I find that while I crave perfection in my images I mainly just take photos “for fun” and often enjoy happy accidents like this one.

I decided to share some of the photos and writing I’ve shared over on my Flickr account. If you’re interested in seeing more of those images you can check them out here.
